VSFW Interview With Chinese Professor Dr.Lin Regarding The Importance of Sustainable Fashion

Last Sunday, our founder Sophia Shi was honoured to have the opportunity to have a virtual interview with Dr.Lin regarding the importance of sustainable fashion. Below are some of the keynotes from their meaningful conversation.

Sophia: Thank you for joining us today. Could you start by telling us a little about yourself and what drew you to the field of environmental science and sustainability?

Dr. Lin: Good morning. I am so happy to be here. I have always been fascinated by the beautiful earth and have always been a very outdoorsy person. So my passion for sustainability was nothing big, nothing heroic... So this led me to study environmental science and sustainability in university and, eventually, to pursue a career in this field.

Sophia: Wow! That's amazing. I think being an outdoorsy person and enjoying the environment is already a very persuasive answer to why want to study this field. Many times we don't need big reasons to achieve something because we know, however small, we are doing something right... And do you mind are share with us more about sustainable fashion and why that is important to you?

Dr. Lin: Absolutely. Clothing and textiles are among the largest sources of waste in the world, and the fashion industry has a significant impact on the environment. From the production of textiles to the disposal of clothing, there are a lot of environmental and social issues associated with the fashion industry. That's why I believe it's important to promote sustainable fashion, which focuses on reducing the environmental and social impacts of the industry.

Sophia: Of course, I think this is an important issue that all of us should care about. Do you mind also sharing some examples of sustainable fashion practices, and companies etc?

Dr. Lin: There are many different sustainable fashion practices that companies and consumers can adopt. Some examples include using organic or recycled materials, reducing water and energy use during production, and promoting fair labour practices. Consumers can also support sustainable fashion by buying clothes that are made to last, repairing or repurposing old clothes, and buying secondhand or vintage clothing.

Sophia: Absolutely. Why do you think it's important for people to support sustainable fashion?

Dr. Lin: Supporting sustainable fashion is important for a number of reasons. First and foremost, it helps to reduce the environmental impact of the fashion industry. By using more sustainable materials and production methods, we can reduce water and energy use, greenhouse gas emissions, and waste. Additionally, promoting fair labour practices in the industry is important for protecting the rights and well-being of workers. Finally, supporting sustainable fashion can help to raise awareness about these issues and encourage more companies to adopt sustainable practices.

Sophia: Thank you so much for joining us this weekend, we really hope are audience could learn something from it.
